If I want to become a CCNP, how do I do it?
The Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP®) has the skills required for the planning, implementation, verification and troubleshooting of LANs and WANs. They can also work in unison with other professionals on various advanced solutions.
Those seeking certification should have at least a year's experience working with networks and must be a certified CCNA or hold any valid CCIE. Once certified, successful candidates will have a validation of their abilities which should prepare them for roles such as network technicians, support engineers, system engineers or network engineers.
To achieve certification candidates must complete three exams:
- 642-902 ROUTE
- 642-813 SWITCH
- 642-832 TSHOOT
The ROUTE exam covers the planning and verification of secure LAN and WAN solutions using a selection of routing protocols.
The SWITCH exam is focused on providing network engineers with the skills needed to work on solutions independently. It covers the planning configuration and verification of complex enterprise switching solutions with Campus Enterprise Architecture and the integration of VLANs, WLANs and voice and video traffic to them.
The TSHOOT exam is based around the skills needed to plan and perform regular maintenance and use technology-based practices to perform network troubleshooting. It is a very hands-on based learning process.
It is highly recommended candidates complete the available training courses for these exams to ensure they have covered all the material they will need to be successful in their certification attempts.
