How do I gain a CompTIA A+ certification?

The CompTIA A+ certification is designed for entry-level IT technicians and provides the skills needed for a career in IT support. It covers a number of areas including installation, security, networking, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting along with customer service and communication skills. The qualification is both internationally recognised and vendor-independent.

Candidates should have around 500 hours of either lab or field experience, so typically will be working as a PC or support technician, IT administrator, field service technician, enterprise technician or in another similar role.

Though vendor-neutral, CompTIA A+ is used as part of the certification path for Microsoft, HP and Cisco, while others including Dell, Intel, Lenovo and Ricoh, have CompTIA A+ as a compulsory part of the training for their service technicians.

To achieve certification candidates must pass both the 20-701 for CompTIA A+ Essentials exam and the the 220-702 CompTIA A+ Practical Application exam.
